Ex-WWE star Paige fined for saying banned word live on TV during AEW broadcast
All Elite Wrestling star Saraya, also known as Paige from her stint in WWE, has landed herself in hot water with her new bosses after slipping up on a live show
One of All Elite Wrestling’s most lauded new recruits, Saraya, has been dealt a fine after swearing on a live TV show.
Back in April 2018, the then WWE-star officially retired from active wrestling on the post-Raw Wrestlemania show, citing a debilitating neck injury she’d suffered four months earlier. After five years in managerial and non-physical roles, she left the company last July and weeks later, joined Tony Khan’s AEW.
She’s since returned to in-ring action, hailing her medical clearance to wrestle again a ‘miracle’. But having formed a heel stable called The Outcasts with Ruby Soho and Toni Storm, the 30-year-old went a little too far with her provocative promo on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show.
Insulting the home crowd at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, she was duly booed. Responding to the jeers, Saraya ranted: “I don’t expect anything less from a bunch of neckbeard, stinky t***s.”
It goaded a response from the crowd, but Khan and co were less than impressed by the remark. Indeed, on Thursday, the new recruit took to Twitter to confirm she had been sanctioned: “I indeed got fined for saying T*** on live TV,” she wrote.
And after many of her 2.7 million followers came out in support, the Fighting with My Family star implied she had few regrets, adding: “They were not happy. I loved it. Worth the fine.”
The wrestler, whose full name is Saraya Jade Bevis, is frequently active on social media, both welcoming and arguing with Twitter users in equal measures. Earlier this week she feuded with fans who had criticised previous comments, saying: “You need to chill. You guys find anything I say and pick it apart.:
Regardless, she has already cemented a huge legacy in sports entertainment, having become the youngest ever WWE Divas champion when she defeated AJ Lee on her Raw debut in April 2014. It also made her the first woman to hold both the Divas and NXT Women’s Championships simultaneously.
And the issue of famous female wrestlers returning to action has been a common one of a late. WWE icon Trish Stratus has this month confirmed she too will come out of retirement at Wrestlemania 39to team up with Becky Lynch and fellow legend Lita.
