Cops Bust a $600K Taylor Swift Ticket Racket
The law finally filled in the blanks on a shady-ass scheme. On Feb. 27, Queens, N.Y., authorities pinched Tyrone Rose, 20, and Shamara P. Simmons, 31, for allegedly jacking over 900 concert tickets—mostly for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour—and flipping them for a fat $600,000 profit. The Queens DA’s Office dropped the bomb in a March 3 press release, and these two are staring down some serious heat.
They’re slapped with grand larceny, computer tampering, and conspiracy charges—could mean 15 years in the slammer if they’re fucked, per DA Melinda Katz. “These assholes rode Taylor Swift’s hype train and other big gigs to screw over fans for a quick buck,” Katz spat in a statement. She says they hacked an offshore ticket vendor’s system, snagged the goods, and cashed out big.
“This bust proves my Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Unit’s got eyes everywhere,” Katz added. “We’re teaming up with industry to stomp out this fraud bullshit and keep consumers safe.” E! News hit up Rose and Simmons’ lawyers for a word, but crickets so far.
